He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attended to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
