He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 Olives and dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
