He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
