He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
