He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
