He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
