He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
