He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
