He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
