He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him you attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 olives, dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
