He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
