He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
