He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 So you are after him! 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
