He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to a rich man, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is also fearful, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Contained in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
