He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
