He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
