He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
