He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
