He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Not this way this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
