He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
