He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honourable pages. 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
