He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to a rich man, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
