He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
