He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
