He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he feareth 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
