He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
