He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attended to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and fodder 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
