He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
