He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fears (Allah), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
