He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
