He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
