He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
