He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
