He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
