He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing and joyous 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
