He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
