He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 So you are after him! 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
