He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 to yield therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grass, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
