He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 In honored books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
