He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
