He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
