He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
