He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives, and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
