He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
