He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
