He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
