He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
