He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he feareth 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
