He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him thou attendest 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
