He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
